A Boutique Store Shouldn’t Need a Developer on Call: Rebuilding Exudy for Speed and Self-Service
WooCommerce made every product edit a chore and every page load a wait. We rebuilt Exudy on Astro + Sanity so the store is fast by default and the owner manages everything herself.

> THE PROBLEM
Exudy sells boho home decor, bags, and accessories for relaxed New Zealand homes. The brand is all texture, warmth, and craft, but the WooCommerce site behind it was slow, dated, and painful to update.
Every product change meant wrestling WordPress. Shipping was a flat guess rather than a real courier rate. And the design didn’t match the calibre of the products: a boho brand deserves better than a stock WooCommerce theme.
The owner needed a store she could run entirely herself (add products, change prices, update photos, adjust shipping) without paying a developer for every tweak.
> WHAT WE BUILT
We rebuilt the store on Astro 5 with React 19 and Tailwind CSS 4, with Sanity CMS as the product and order backend. A custom migration script pulled all 105 products out of WooCommerce, and 301 redirects map every old product and category URL to the new structure.
Checkout runs through Stripe in NZD with Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Afterpay, plus an optional bank transfer flow for customers who prefer it. Shipping quotes come live from the NZ Couriers API with North/South Island zones and a flat-rate class for small items like earrings.
The embedded Sanity Studio gives the owner full control: products, categories, orders with automatic status emails, homepage content, bank details, and shipping rates, with a built-in help guide. Publishing a change auto-deploys the site in minutes.
